Former president and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC John Drammani Mahama says he is amazed by the manner in which the vice president, Dr. Mahmud Bawumia is “claiming” almost every project started by the NDC, while in government, disclosing that the four (4) district hospitals, including the Tolon one recently inaugurated by the Veep are his legacies.
The former president who has ended his three (3) days’ tour in the northern region seeking for reelection revealed this when he was addressing a mamoth rally in Nyankpala in the Tolon constituency yesterday, November 28.
“As Haruna said, they have no knowledge of this hospital. I announced this hospital for the first time in Buipe in 2015 after we had secured the funding. And they were four of this hospitals, we sent one to Buipe, because from Kintampo, all the way to Tamale, there was no hospital and there used to be accidents on that road. And when people had an accident, they had to put them in cars and drive them all the way to Tamale or Kintampo. So we had to put one of the hospitals in Buipe with an emergency center…”, he said.
“We didn’t choose the hospitals for nothing. We put one in Tolon, and we put one in my constituency, Bamboi. And so they have no knowledge of this hospitals. It is one of the legacies of NDC administration”, the NDC flagbearer added.
Introducing the former president, the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisuz stated that the NDC has given the people of Tolon constituency so much to be voted back into power, saying apart from the hospital, the University For Development Studies, is another NDC baby (thanks to the memory of president Jerry Rawlings), that is a testament of the NDC commitment to develop the area.
The Vice President on November 23 commissioned the Tolon District Hospital on the last day of his three-day tour of the Northern Region.
The 60-bed Ultra-Modern Hospital for the Tolon District is one of the six medical facilities which begun three (3) years ago.
The other facilities are the 80 Bed Hospital at Somanya in the Eastern Region; 80 Bed District Hospital at Buipe in the Savannah Region; 60 Bed Hospital at Wheta in the Volta Region; 60 Bed Hospital at Sawla in the Savannah Region and a 30 Bed Polyclinic at Bamboi in the Savannah Region.
