Member of Parliament (MP) elect for Savelugu constituency, Abdulai Jacob Iddrisu is demanding an unqualified apology from his colleague representing the people of Effutu constituency, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo Markin for describing him as “murder suspect” or meet him in court.

The MP elect said this in a press release on Saturday, December 19, 2020 following a discussion on Joy News’ program dubbed, NewsFile on elections related violence in just ended general elections.

“My attention has been drawn to an unfortunate statement by the NPP MP for Effutu Hon. Alexander Kwamina Afenyo Markin on today’s Joy News current affairs program NewsFile”, the statement said.

“The MP alleged that, I Abdulai Jacob Iddris, the MP – Elect for Savelugu is a murder suspect in a case involving the unfortunate death of a young lady in Savelugu”, it added.

Mr. Jacob further demanded that, “I am through this statement calling on the Lawyer and MP to retract and apologize for the rather unfortunate statement on such a reputable program as NewsFile, failing which I will be compelled to seek the advice of my lawyers for the appropriate legal action.”

My attention has been drawn to an unfortunate statement by the NPP MP for Effutu Hon. Alexander Kwamina Afenyo Markin on today’s Joy News current affairs program NewsFile.

The MP alleged that, I Abdulai Jacob Iddris, the MP – Elect for Savelugu is a murder suspect in a case involving the unfortunate death of a young lady in Savelugu.

I am through this statement calling on the Lawyer and MP to retract and apologize for the rather unfortunate statement on such a reputable program as NewsFile, failing which I will be compelled to seek the advice of my lawyers for the appropriate legal action.

My attention was called by the NDC Regional Secretary Mr. Mohammed Abdul – Salam on Tuesday 15th December, 2020 to the effect that the Norther Regional Police Command wanted to have my statement on an allege retrieval of a weapon from the NDC constituency office in Savelugu.

The Regional Secretary indicated to me he had agreed with the Police Command to come along with me and my lawyer on 21st December, 2020 for my caution statement to be taken.

It has therefore come to me as a surprise hearing such a callous allegations from a member of parliament on matters I have no knowledge of.

I am the MP Elect, a law abiding citizen with twenty-seven (27) years of public service and have no record of any crime either with the police, the courts or any institution of that knd.

I will avail myself before the Police at the appointed time for my caution statement to be taken.
