The Member of Parliament (MP) elect for Savelugu constituency, Iddrisu Abdulai Jacob has been granted bail by Tamale Circuit court after he reported to the police in connection with the arrest warrant on him.
According to National Democratic Congress (NDC) Northern Regional Director of elections, Alhaji Mohammed Amin Adam (Abio) who was in the court with the party’s secretary, Mohammed A. Salam on behalf of the party, the MP was arranged before court and granted bail.
“The MP elect for Savelugu Hon Jacob Iddrisu today reported to the NR police command in respect of an arrest warrant on him
He was arranged before Tamale Circuit court on a charged of alleged possession of firearms”, Alhaji Abio said.
“The MP had since being granted bail after his lead counsel Halid Abdul Rauf prayed for a bail for his client. NR NDC secretary Mohammed Abdul Salaam and Director of Elections Alhaji Abio were in court on behalf of the party to support the NDC MP”, he added.
The Police a week ago secured a court warrant to arrest Mr Abdulai Jacob Idriss for unlawful possession of an AK47 assault rifle and ammunition.
A team of Police and Military officers retrieved an AK47 rifle loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition from the office of the NDC in Savelugu on Wednesday’s evening.
According to the Northern Regional Police Commander, COP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, they picked intelligence that there were guns in a house that also housed the campaign office of the MP-elect.
He said the police then followed the lead to the said house where a search was conducted where an AK47 rifle loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition was found. The police then proceeded to search the office of the MP-elect which was locked at the time and got broken latter.
