The Northern Regional Correspondent of the Ghanaian Observer News Paper, Mr Mohammed Bondirigbum has narrowly escaped a mob attack at the premises of NTV, a television station based in Tamale.
The angry supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tamale South constituency believed to be loyalists of Hon Yakubu Ussif, the 2020 parliamentary candidate of NPP in the constituency invaded the offices of the television station to attack the seasoned Journalist for independently sharing his view on corruption allegation levelled against the PC.
Some polling stations executives in the Tamale South constituency after the declaration of the 2020 general elections accused the party’s immediate past parliamentary candidate, the constituency chairman and some executives of pocketing monies ment for them.
The polling station executives revealed that, the party national treasurer allocated Ghc 600 for each polling station, but the defeated PC and some of the constituency executives give each polling centre in the constituency Ghc 200.
As a result, the aggrieved polling officers have formed a collation of concern polling station executives to press home their demands, among other things the collation has petition the constituency secretariat to investigate into the matter.
The Journalist who was invited to the station as a panel to discuss rising issues in the region reasoned with the aggrieved executive’s, and called on the leadership of the party to intervene.
He also questioned why Hon Yakubu Ussif should be lobbying for Tamale Chief Executive position, if he can’t be transparent to polling station executives.
After confirming the allegations by the polling station executives, he tasked the accused person’s to refund the money to the frustrated executives.
The Journalist bitter pronouncement during the live program, NorthernWebGh.com understands angered the former PC supporters, and they resulted to a mission to split blood at the media house instead of facing the substance of the matter.
After realizing danger minutes after the program, the Journalist miraculously disappeared upon seeing the former PC supporters invading the television station, he told colleagues journalists after the incident.
The Supporters unable to unleash their venom on the Journalist, destroyed his motorcycle beyond repairs.
Mr. Mohammed Bondirigbum noted that personnel assistants of the former PC for the Tamale South constituency led the irate supporters to the station.
He clearly warned the former PC and his supporters that, no amount of intimidation and attacks can prevent him from speaking his mind.
Mr. Mohammed Bondirigbum has since reported the case to the police for the necessary action to be taken.
Meanwhile, the petition of the Collation of the Concern Polling Station executives further accused the former PC of diverting campaign item’s for his personnel gains.
“Head dryer, barbering machines, grinding Mills and sewing machines ment for campaign has been diverted which has since not been traced as to where such machines are, since people cannot attest to receiving the said item’s”
“There was another allegation on how the PC received Ghc 400000 support for the constituency campaign. No one in the constituency can tell what the money was actually used for”. The petitioners stated, and demand for clarifications.
