Vice president, Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia has issued a disclaimer, disassociating his office from posters promoting his bid to succeed the president, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, as the New Patriotic Party NPP flagbearer going into 2024 elections.
This was contained in an official statement from his office, signed by his spokesperson, Dr. Gideon Boako, today Wednesday, March 24, 2021.
“The Office of the Vice President has taken notice of the proliferation of posters around the country apparently promoting H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the candidate of the NPP for the 2024 elections”, the statement said.
“For the record, the Vice President has not given his consent to these and other associated activities”, it added.
He used the opportunity to emphasize that he is focused on helping president Nana Addo to succeed in his second term, reminding the NPP rank and file that that is where their focus should be.
“The Vice President remains focused on assisting His Excellency the President in the execution of his agenda to transform Ghana. This is where everybody’s focus should be”, it concluded.
It will be recalled that the Gabby Otchere Darko recently called on appointees of the government to channel their energy into helping the president rather than concentrating on their presidential ambitions.
This called was supported by the NPP national chairman, Freddy Blay, when he appealed to the vice president and trade minister, Mr. Alan Kojo Kyeremanteng to take their cue from the Agric minister, Dr. Akoto Afriyie, who denied reports of his secret campaigns in Kumasi.
Ever since the president was successfully sworn in to continue his second term, indicating his last term and his 8 years of NPP in power, there has been moves from Mr. Alan’s camp and the vice president’s camp seriously campaigning to succeed President Akufo-Addo.
