Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South Constituency has issued a statement denying fliers in circulation suggesting that he will be contesting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership to lead the party in 2024.

This was released yesterday, March 25, 2021, following the circulation of his presidential candidature fliers on social media.”My attention has been drawn to some posters and publications making rounds on social media which purports to present me as running for the office of President of the Republic of Ghana for 2024 on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)”, the statement said.

“While I hold the view that the people of Ghana can easily dismiss such claims and attribute same to the figment of the fertile imaginations of unscen hands, I find it necessary to make a public statement on the matter”, it added.

According to him, this is the act of NDC opponents to divert their attention, adding that he has a duty support the party regain power with majority of seats in parliament, come 2024.

“I urge the general public to disregard the posters making the rounds and to treat same with the serious contempt they deserve. I have never owned or worm a black three-piece suit as the picture being cireulated sought to portray. The picture can only be the product of mischief”, the leader stated in the statement.

“These acts are calculated and intended to disorganize the rank and file of the NDC. I have a duty to lead the NDC Party in Parliament with the ultimate objective of holding President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Government accountable for the mandate handed him until 2024. My primary preoccupation is to see the NDC regain power after the 2024 general elections with a majority in Parliament”, it further read.
