Regret is the feeling of being disappointed by someone or something and emotion of wishing one had made a different decision in the past, because the consequences of the decision turn to be unfavorable.
It has become so common for journalists in Ghana to declare their support for a political party, while campaigning against another to brighten the chances of the former to gain political power.
Some journalists take this risk due to the failure of the party he or she is campaigning against, if it is in power and is not proving to be a alternative to better the life of the citizenry, whose interest the journalist is said to be protecting.
But for others, it is simply because of a personal relationship with the president they want to maintain in power or the opposition leader they want to test political power.
When their expectations are not met after the victory of their candidate and the consequences look so dire, the bold ones will be seen or heard talking, but the weak will move heaven and Earth to paint the picture to look rosy.
This is exactly what is happening right now in Ghana, with His Excellency, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo as president.
Prior to his victory as president of Ghana after the 2016 general elections, they were so many Ghanaian journalists who made known their political beliefs ; for the then governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Among them were top journalists in the country who did everything to ensure Mr. Akufo-Addo as he was then emerged victor at all cost, because to them, the then president, John Drammani Mahama had failed the people, and they could not see reason why he should be retained.
Two (2) of them are Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Citi FM/Citi TV, Samuel Atta Mensah and former head of operations at Angel Broadcasting Network, Godsbrain Blessed Smart popularly known as Captain Smart.
During the 2016 campaign for the general elections, Sammens was heard on different platforms declaring his support the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo, and one such platforms was TV 3’s morning show where he was sometimes a panel.
He was later appointed as CEO of Coastal Development Authority when the president was forming his government after the elections, he resigned six (6) months later.
Expressing his anger at the manner of operations by National Security in the Nana Addo led government following the alleged manhandling of his staff on Citi TV’s point of view on Wednesday, May 12, he said, “Politicians turn to forget something which is The kind of security architecture you build in power is the same you will become a victim to when you are out of Power. Nothing last forever.”
Captain Smart, on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana on May 7, 2021 disclosed he voted for the president in 2020 elections, and that he has been supportive of the Akufo-Addo’s agenda for a long time.
He was rather quick to express his regret at the Nana-Bawumia government, revealing that he “criticised Mahama over Ghana’s debt but Bawumia (NPP’s) is worse.”
According to the station’s general manager, Kwadwo Dickson, Captain Smart was suspended for attacking members of government.
The station’s General Manager revealed that the suspension was orchestrated by their boss for utterances Smart made on the show.
But, the suspended Smart has since parted ways with his former employers whiles promising to keep talking for the suffering Ghanaian youth on his New TV station, Smart TV.
