Madam Elizabeth Asantewaa, the woman who suffered an amputation after an explosion from a bouquet laced with a bomb which was given to her to be presented to Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah at Kulungugu is reportedly dead.In a Facebook post by Executive Director of Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson, the Kulungugu bomb victim has passed on in less than 24 hours ago.”I have just learnt of the unfortunate passing of madam Elizabeth Asantewaa, the 13 year girl who was maimed by a bomb attack on Dr.Kwame Nkrumah”, the ASEPA boss wrote on his Facebook page.”A few days ago the Hon Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor Etse made an emotional appeal on the floor of Parliament for the State to take care of this helpless woman after several years of neglect. As part of efforts to get the state to support this woman, ASEPA also added our voice to the passionate call by the Hon.Member of Parliament. It is sad learning that Madam Elizabeth Asantewaa did not live to see the fruit of our Advocacy”, he added.Mr. Mensah Thompson however used the opportunity to call on government to ensure the deceased gets “a befitting burial State burial in honor of the ordeal she suffered through no fault of hers.”Untill her death, there has been efforts by individuals and NGOs to support Madam Elizabeth Asantewaa, by paying her medical bills and to provide food for her upkeep. Our checks at different sources have revealed successive governments have done virtually nothing to compensate her for, even upon several appeals she made to the state.
