Investigative Journalist, Manansseh Azure Awuni is wondering what work the council of state members do for government to be paying each of them GHc 26, 266 as monthly salary.

Taking to his Facebook page, the former journalist with the multimedia wrote, “Council of State members are paid GHc26,266 a month, with vehicles. What do they do?”

The Council of State in Ghana is a small body of prominent citizens, analogous to the Council of Elders in the traditional political system, which advises the President on national issues.

The Council of State was established by Articles 89 to 92 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana: “There shall be a Council of State to counsel the President in the performance of his functions.”

Recently, there have been calls by a section of Ghanaians on the president scrap it, describing it as “useless”.

Below are comments by some Ghanaians on Manansseh Azure
