Municipal Director for Ghana Education Service in the Sagnarigu Municipality, Mr. Alhassan Alidu Junior has lamented that the municipality is in furniture deficit of over 20, 000.

The director said this at an event to hand over 250 dual desk furniture to five (5) selected schools in the area by the member of parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini on Monday August 9, yesterday at the GES municipal Directorate.

“Sagnarigu as a municipality is in deficit of over 20, 000 furniture. So this gesture (MP’s donation) will come to help solve the situation. As we know, when we go round, we saw a lot of our pupils seating or lying on the ground to take notes in the schools”, the director said.

“Quality education can not be possible, when the classroom environment is not conducive for learning. So this definitely will come to help improve the situation”, he added.

The director used the opportunity to thank the MP for his continuous support to see education progress to attain quality of teaching and learning.

He however said that due to the numerous roles the Tamale North legislator has to play in various sectors to bring development to the area, it was not proper to ask him to resolve the over 20, 000 furniture deficit, saying that they were appealing to individuals and NGOs to also intervene.

“As Oliver Twist always do, we thank Honourable for the gesture, but we still need more of this. Not only furniture, some of our classroom structures are in deplorable state. We will appeal that if the MP can do something to help renovate our schools and also improve on the furniture situation”, Mr. Alidu stated.

“Notwithstanding, we call on other stakeholders who can also support. I know the MP alone can not do without other stakeholders involvement. They can also come to the side of the municipality”, he appealed.

The benefitiary schools include Choggu Demonstration Primary ‘B’, Kanvili Tunaayili Nujumul Primary, Kanvili Tunaayili M.A Primary, Ulum Diniyat Primary and Junior High School (JHS) and Our Lady Primary and JHS.

The cost of the items is 48, 000 Ghana cedis, which is part of the MP’s share of Getfund 2020.

The MP also renovated a five classroom block belonging to Choggu Demonstration School that almost became a death trap.

The structure was reroofed, had its old doors and windows fixed and repainted.
