Former president, John Dramani Mahama has expressed worries over the prices of food products in the country, attributing it to a failure by the Akufo-Addo’s government to make the Agric sector viable.

President Mahama said this when he was speaking to Radio Tamale’s Robicon Mornahson today, August 19 as part of his thank you tour in the northern region following the 2020 elections.

“Today, as the economy grows, and modernization takes in, Agriculture has a percentage to your GDP. And that will be a very good measure to the efficiency of the Agriculture sector”, he said.

“Already a bag of maize is around 400 Ghana cedis. But when I left office, it was between 50 to 100 Ghana cedis”, president Mahama added.

According to him, the smuggle of subsidized fertilizer to the farmers into the neighboring countries is affecting the agric sector great, adding that the effects lead to increase in food prices.

The NDC 2020 flagbearer begun the nationwide tour intended to thank Ghanaians for their votes in the 2020 presidential election.
