The Member of Parliament for the Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Suhuyini has donated medical equipment to the Gbalahi and Ward K clinics in the Sagnerigu Municipality of the Northern region.
The donation is in response to a recent appeal made by the Sagnerigu District Health Directorate for support to address logistucal challenges faced by some health centers in the Municipality.
Mr. Alhassan Suhuyini, whose constituency falls under the Municipality, donated items including forceps, delivery sets, drip stands, examination beds, baby weighing scales, clinical themometers and table top fridges, valued at over twenty seven thousand cedis. The MP revealed that, the items were procured using his share of the MPs Common Fund.
“Today we gathered here at Gbalahi to respond to a request from the health directorate under the Sagnarigu Municipal. We are by the grace of God contacted a non-governmental organization, Qatar Charity. And they assisted us to construct two (2) clinics in our constituency last year. One of those clinics is situated here at Gbalahi. Unfortunately after the project, it was revealed to me that source of electricity was that far that the contractor could not connect the facility to the source of electricity. So I had to intervene to provide the electricity to the clinic. I have since also provided a water tank for the facility so that they can some water to run the facility”, he said.
“After that the incharge together with other community elders made the appeal to me assist them with some few logistics to facilitate their work and health delivery. So together with the municipal health directorate, we have been able to use the national health fund to purchase some of the logistics that they identified that will help facilitate their work. And that is why we are here today to present them to the health workers”, the MP added.
The equipment include forceps for dressing, delivery set, drip stand, examination beds, baby weighing scale and pans, table top fridges, autoclave, clinical thermometers, instrument scale, towels, benches, sphygmomanometer among others.
According to Alhaji Suhuyini, the items amounted to GH¢27,712.00 with the funding coming from his share of the MPs Share of the National Health Insurance Fund.
He believed the donation will go along way to support the clinics in providing quality and accessible health care for the people in the area.
Sagnarigu Municipal Heath director, Dr. George Abraham, who spoke on behalf of the health workers thanked the MP for his continued support, adding that they still need more.
He however assure the Tamale North legislator that they will put the facility to good use.
He used the opportunity to supervise some water and health projects yet to be completed in the constituency.
