Beauty of Mamprugu culture : Why Vice president, Bawumia’s late mother is owing her grandchildren


The 3rd day funeral rite has been organized to mourn Hajia Mariama Bawumia, the mother of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

The funeral rite was graced by Imams, traditional rulers and other dignitaries in Ghana.

At the funeral, two of Hajia Mariama’s grandchildren caught attention when they stood forward and claimed that their deceased grandmother owes them 50,000 cedis and the debt must be paid by the surviving children.

They later explained to the media that it’s part of their traditional and the children of the deceased must pay the money to them.

Amina, one of the grandchildren explained that it’s not a real debt but amongst the Mamprusi people, children of a deceased must pay this debt for their mother to Rest In Peace.

At the funeral rite of the Mariama Bawumia revealed at the funeral that their grandmother owes them.

Speaking to the media about this debt, one of the grandchildren explained that it’s part of their culture and needed to be done for the deceased to Rest In Peace.
