The recent police invasion of some communities in Tamale and subsequent brutalities have attracted widespread condemnation from across the country, leading to reaction by some irate youth in Tamale.
According to the highly incensed youth, they are not satisfied with the interdiction of the four (4) officers by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) who assaulted the residents of Nakpanzuo, Zujung and Lamashegu North over power theft, known in local parlance as “illegal connection”.
They said this is not the first time such incident happened, adding that previous ones by the police officers did not attract any severe punishment to serve as deterrent to other officers who conduct themselves unprofessionally.
They spoke to ghdominancenews.con during demonstration today Saturday, September 25, 2021.
“We know the police very well. They will lie later that they have been punished. And that is all. That is why we want to tell them we are not happy and we will not tolerate this anymore”, some of the demonstrators said.
They marched through some principal streets of the metropolis to register their anger with placards carrying inscriptions – “Enough of the brutalities”.
They youth also pelted stones at the offices belonging to the police and Volta River Authority (VRA), causing damage to the properties, as some glass doors and windows got broken.
“Scores of youth in Tamale have vandalized parts of the Lamashegu Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern region”, Tamale based Diamond FM reported on the station’s Facebook page.
