Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South Constituency who doubles as Minority Leader in Ghana’s parliament, Lawyer Haruna Iddrisu has said that the nominee for Tamale Metropolis, Sule Salifu is most likely to be considered as Mayor for the area.

Leader said this when he was speaking exclusively on Citi TV’s Point of View hosted by Bernard Avle on Wednesday’s evening, September 29.

“I have an indication that the Tamale nominee is likely to be considered. That is largely the business of the assembly members”, he stated.

The Tamale South legislator however believed the confirmation or rejection of Sule Salifu will not change the status of the area as a stronghold for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Sule Salifu, who is currently the Northern Regional Director for Youth Employment Agency (YEA) was nominated by president Akufo-Addo as Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Tamale.

Mr. Sule is scheduled to be confirmed tomorrow Thursday, September 30, if he gets 2/3 or more of the 59 assembly members within the metropolis.

So far many chiefs, religious and traditional opinion leaders in Tamale are calling on the assembly members to endorse the nominee to continue where his predecessor, Iddrisu Musah Superior left.
