Some Assembly Members of Tamale Metropolitan Assembly have revealed that they took huge sums of monies before confirming the president’s Nominee, Sule Salifu as Tamale Mayor, yesterday, September 30.
Speaking exclusively on Radio Tamale’s Bugum Beni show with Mr. Tell, assemblyman for A. D. B. electoral area, Mr. Razak Gombila said each assemblyman took a sum of 4, 000 Ghana cedis before the confirmation took place.
Braking it down, he disclosed that the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Saani Alhassan gave the assembly members 1,000 each after a meeting with them, adding that the NPP regional chairman, Mohammed Bantima Samba tripled it thereafter.
“Our colleague assembly members are hypocrites and greedy. We all were given monies to confirm Sule Salifu as Mayor, but they took the monies and voted against him”, A. D. B. assemblyman revealed.
This was collaborated by his colleague Warizehi Assemblyman, popularly known as Hon. Sofawan Hustler who admitted taking 3, 000 because he was not around at the time the 1, 000 was given.
The MCE nominee, Sule Salifu polled 40 ‘Yes’ votes and 17 ‘No’ votes out of a total of 59 votes cast, while two were rejected.
Out of the 59, there were 41 elected Assembly members and 18 government appointees.
The confirmed Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) will succeed Musah Superior to manage affairs in the Tamale metropolis.
