The president and leader of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has made a rather strong statement to disabuse the minds of the party’s supporters that he is endorsing someone to succeed him when his 8 years turn at the presidency is over.

After his description of the Veep, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia at the Naa-Yiri palace sometime ago as “1st Class Vice President” that country has had so far, he has again made a controversial introduction of the Trade and Agric Ministers, Mr. Alan Kojo Kyeremanteng and Dr. Akoto Afriyie respectively at the Manhyia Palace.

While introducing dignitaries during a tour of the Ashanti Region on Friday October 1, 2021, the President told the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about two individuals he has heard wish to contend for the seat of President.

“Asantehene, allow me introduce my team members. Here is your grandson, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, my Agric Minister who wants to become the President”, he told the king of the Asante.

Laughter spread through the gathering after this statement and the President could not help but join them.

“Nana, this is Alan Kyeremanten, he has been vying for my seat for a very long time, a very workaholic Minister,” he added.

This has led a lot of people to say a hush has fallen over the NPP, as many of the supporters are concluding that president Akufo-Addo is confusing them with his statements.

The party has issued a code of conduct to all aspiring members and warned of punitive measures if any one is found campaigning.
