One of the chief priests who were dragged to Tamale district magistrate court by Tamale Metropolitan Police Command over who has the power to celebrate Damba, Tamale Bugu-Lana has been banned from celebrating this year’s Damba.

Butt the Tamale District Magistrate Court which was hearing the case ruled that the Bugu-Lana should not celebrate the 2021 Damba with a ban from beating any form of drum for 18 months.

The new Bugu-Lana was selected and outdoored in May this year following the performance of the final funeral rites of Tamale Bugu-Lana Alhassan who died in September 2020.

He was selected by the Dakpema Fuseini Bawa to succeed the late Tamale Bugu-Lana whi ruled between 1976-2020 and died at the age of 95.
