The police in the northern region have expressed their optimism in the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare following his visit to the area over the death of some police officers.

Speaking to the media at the northern regional Air Force Base after the deceased officers were airlifted to Accra for subsequent burial, the northern regional crime officer, Supt, Benard Baba Ananga disclosed that his men were “demoralized”.

According to him, the manner of their colleagues’ passing made them feel bad, because it was on the course of national duty.

Supt Benard Baba Ananga however used the opportunity to send a message to armed robbers along the Walewale-Tamale road where their colleagues died through an accident.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare arrived in Tamale in the Northern Region to visit three police officers who were critically injured in a fatal accident that killed two others Thursday evening.

The accident occurred on the Walewale-Bolgatanga road in the North East Region.

The three officers were referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital after they were initially admitted to the Walewale Government Hospital.

The five officers were members of the Anti-robbery Squad of the Ghana Police Service who were responding to an emergency on the Walewale-Bolgatanga highway.
