Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has said that the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has become a darling boy of the party, describing him as “the soul of NDC”.
He stated this when he was answering a question from the host of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere on who is the MP’s preferred candidate for the NDC national chairman position.
According to lawyer Ayariga, both Mr. Asiedu Nketia and the incumbent chairman, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo can’t escape the blame from the grassroots that they did not do much to win the 2020 general elections, if there is any.
He believed they all of them contributed their quota towards the party’s victory, but just that Ghanaians decided otherwise.
In his view, there is no so much difference between the position of general secretary and that of the chairman, calling on the two (2) to maintain their positions.
“Everybody in the party likes Asiedu Nketia. The grassroots like him. They believe that he works very hard for the party. At the same time they also have respect for the Chairman”, the Bawku Central MP said.
“I believe that the 2 of the them should find a way of continuing to work together. Because whatever Asiedu Nketia will accuse the chairman of, the chairman will equally accuse Asiedu Nketia of. They were together when we won elections. And they were together when we lost 2 elections…”, he added.
Meanwhile, he could not speak in details on the who becomes the party’s general secretary to succeed Johnson Asiedu Nketia, concluding that all the names popping up are friends to him, and that they were putting him in a difficult situation.
