Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has disclosed that the only way to restore peace in Bawku area is for Mamprusi to understand that they can never control the Kusasi like in the past.

He said this when he was speaking exclusively with host of Citi TV’s Face 2 Face, Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday’s evening, January 25 in his office at parliament.

“There are issues I feel must be placed on record. The fact is that. In today’s world, it is no longer tenable for Mamprusi to exercise authority in the Kusasi area. That is a historical fact. That is a reality. So it is not tenable. Bawku is Kusasi land”, the MP told Sanda.

“Now we have to be frank to each other and begin to talk to ourselves that it is not tenable. It is not acceptable. Kusasi will not accept it. It will be difficult for anyone to impose on Kusasi as the Nayiri as a chief. Is not something that will entertained”, he added.

He however called on president Akufo-Addo, who is the commander of Ghana Armed Forces to use his office to deploy more security into the area, stressing that this is the only way to contain the situation.

Four (4) persons have been shot dead so far while eight others have sustained various injuries during renewed clashes between Kusasis and Mamprusi in the area.

Eye witnesses told the Ghanaian Times that injured persons were rushed to the Presbyterian Mission Hospital for treatment.

Both the Regional Police Commander and his Public Relations Officer refused to comment on the incident when contacted.

In a related development, a Policewoman, Constable Regina Angenu, has been shot dead in Bawku by unknown assailants.

According to a release issued on Monday by the Police, the deceased was shot in the groin and died at the Presbyterian Mission Hospital while undergoing treatment.
