The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Saani Alhassan has disclosed that the police officer who described the Lamashegu palace as dirty and Northerners as animals was arrested immediately and will be arraigned before court today.
The minister said this when he appeared on Zaa TV’s Salo Yelimugsira this morning, February 16, to speak on the recent police shooting in Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale that resulted in the death of one person and injuring several others.
“I ordered the Regional Police Commander to arrest the said officer. What he said was amount to act that could disturb public peace. And I will not allow this to happen under my regime”, the minister told Zaa TV’s Alhassan Abdul Mumin.
“His comments could attract more anger from the youth. And the consequences could be more dire than what caused the current situation”, he added.
There was widespread anger among a section of youth on various social media platforms over an unprintable words used to describe Northerners and Lamashegu chief’s palace by a police officer identified by his Facebook name as Monney K. Koranteng.
