Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Saani Alhassan has stated that the sale of Tamale West Hospital lands did not happen under him as a minister, , adding that he can not do anything about it.
The minister said this in an exclusive interview with Tamale based Justice FM’s Alhassan Mutaru on his show, dubbed – The Northern Eye today Saturday, June 25.
“Sale of Tamale West Hospital lands- I’m also not happy, I couldn’t do anything. It didn’t happen under me”, the minister told Mutaru on the show.
This is the first time government official has spoken on the matter since the minority leader led the members of parliament belonging to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) visited the site with journalists.
Speaking at the press conference, the minority leader called on the government to see to it that the decision to sell those lands are taken back to the Hospital.
Lawyer Haruna Iddrisu also said the NDC MPs were there as representatives of of the people, following the concerns raised by the people with regards to the NPP government’s disregard for what belongs to the state.
“We are farthered this morning here as elected members of parliament. And the representatives of our various constituencies. And particular Constituencies of Tamale – Tamale South. Tamale Central. Tamale North and Sagnarigu Constituency. And supported by the elected representatives by Wulensi, Kumbungu and Kpandai
“We are exercising our mandate and authority as representatives of the people. On their behalf, we are strongly conveying to the president of the republic and minister responsible for lands and natural resources and all other state institutions, including the lands commission to freeze forewith any further sale. The indiscriminate sale of public lands, must freeze for an investigation to understand the justification for the indiscriminate and continuous sale of public lands, and in particular, institutional lands”, he added.
