The Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tamale South Constituency, Mr. Abdul Ganiwu Sandoo has declared his intentions to retain his position, adding that Member of Parliament for the area, Haruna Iddrisu has asked him to maintain it and not change any other position.
His comments were necessitated by statement by a member of a communications team for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed Soawi on Radio Tamale’s political talkshow on Tuesday’s evening, July 26 dubbed – Ashahara Nye Dini that the MP barred him from contesting for the Secretary Position.
According to him, the MP who doubles as Minority Leader in Ghana’s parliament still needs his services as the mouthpiece for the party in the constituency, and therefore will want him to maintain it going into 2024 elections.
“I had the intention to contest for the position of Tamale South Constituency Secretary. But my master (MP) told me he still needs me serve as Communications Officer”, Mr. Sandoo told the host.
When asked if it was true as rumoured by many that lawyer Haruna Iddrisu coerced him to rescind his decision to contest the Secretary Position, he answered, “No! He is the one i serve. If refuse to listen to him, it will amount to arrogance. So I am no more interested in the Secretary Position. I will seek for re-election as Communications Officer.”
His decision to contest The Secretary Position was born out of the fact that the incumbent constituency secretary will be contesting for the Regional Communications Officer position of the party, making his secretary position vacant.
Mr. Sandoo has held the position as deputy communications officer on two (2) consecutive times (8 years) and as substantive once (4) years.
He has 19 years working relations with Minority Leader spanning from 2003 till date.
He served as PRO and secretary of Haruna fan club and later becoming deputy propaganda Secretary for Tamale South. He is also the CEO of Haruna Institute.
So far, about three (3) persons including the incumbent have shown interest in occupying the position of Tamale South NDC Constituency Communications Officer with one already making his posters public.
