Yhe president of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo is reported to have been overwhelmingly impressed with Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region and the regional minister’s efforts to unite the party in the region to break the 8 in 2024.
This was revealed by deep sources at the presidency following the president’s recent visit to the Northern Region to supervise ongoing projects and cut sod for new ones to begin.
According to the source, the president without mincing words said he expecting the party to be running around, spending time reconciling perceived factions because of the “tension” that preceded the regional contest in May this year.
But, he was particularly happy the chairman and the minister, Alhaji Saani Alhassan were able to bring everyone on board after the elections, which was manifested in the president’s tour of the area.
“Trust me, president Akufo-Addo is impressed with the manner Chairman Samba and Regional Minister are pushing for the party to break 8. Especially their ability to bring the everyone together. There is so much to say that the NPP in united in the Northern Region”, the source said on the condition of anonymity.
“Nothing makes the president happy than seeing a united NPP in the various regions, especially when it is coming from constituencies”, he added.
It will be recalled that the NPP went into the 2016 elections with divided front, having its top national executives and some constituency executives suspended.
This many political analysts predicted it was going to affect the party negatively, describing the division as “deep-seated”.
The sources was confident that if this the NPP is able to maintain unity in the party going into 2024elections, it is most likely to break the 8, though with small margin.
